Before the discovery of insulin, diabetes (especially type 1) was a terminal disease.
Since insulin therapy was discovered, care for people with diabetes has advanced in leaps and bounds: from urine testing in a test tube to 5-second blood glucose monitors, and from glass syringes to disposable syringes/pens and pumps.
The search for biological and mechanical cures is ongoing and until a cure is found, continuing care is being greatly advanced by technology and knowledgeable support from healthcare professionals, and the diabetes online community.
INPUT is a registered charity run by insulin pump users and their families with a mission to improve access to diabetes technology – including insulin pump therapy – in the UK. Not everyone needs technology, and not all clinics are familiar with it. This website will tell you what is available in the UK, who can get it, and how to get it.
