Good News for Scotland: Access to pumps improves.

Click here to see results of the Scottish Diabetes Survey 2009.

Interesting results include:

percentage of Type 1 patients with HbA1c in range (page 19) and

insulin pump usage (page 22).

Access to insulin pump therapy in Scotland is different from England, as NICE technology appraisals are not mandatory.

iPAG Scotland (Insulin Pump Awareness Group) was founded in 2009 by a group of volunteers currently using insulin pump therapy, some hoping to commence CSII in the future and parents of children with diabetes. Since 1998 INPUT has worked very hard on pump issues faced in the UK by raising awareness and understanding of CSII and supporting people to get this therapy. Although substantial progress has been made particularly in some parts of England, Scotland’s situation is not as positive and the issues faced there differ from those in England. iPAG got together to concentrate specifically on the problems in Scotland and to try to unravel the maze to find out why Scotland is lagging so far behind England and many other counties in the developed world in pump provision, which they hope will enable Scotland to move forward in the future.

iPAG will continue to work closely with INPUT however they will now be first point of contact for any enquiries relating to Scotland.
